========== WRITTEN TEST ==========

A hooded Gliscor stands in front of the doors to one of Andalusst’s restaurants, Café Obscurité. A dark mauve hood surrounds him, enshrouding him with only a small part of his face showing and his scorpion-like tail slithering out. He grins; his unnerving smile turning corners upon the ironic name of the restaurant. It was a very successful restaurant after all. He turns his alert yellow gaze to a small Zigzagoon who stands in front of him.

“Open the doors.” The Gliscor says, the first few words in awhile. His voice is somewhat hushed and calm, but definitely one of authority.

“R-Right Mister Skarro sir!” The Zigzagoon yelps, startled by the sudden words. He grabs the door’s handles and pulls the one open, holding it there so that his partner could enter.

“Atta boy Oto.” The Gliscor, Skarro, says, walking through the opened door and into the restaurant’s vicinity.  He moves slowly and looks somewhat hunched over as he walks, like a slug in a big bulk of shadow. No one would dare walk in his way. Well, no one that’s smart anyway.

As soon as the twosome arrive, the Pokémon at the front desk approaches them and shows both of them to a table. The table of the Guild representative that they were supposed to meet, which was located in one of the darker corners of the already-dim establishment. Sitting there is a sly, smiling Furret with a blue newsboy cap: the Hunters Guild representative. As raggedy as he looks, he doesn’t seem like a good fit for the present surroundings, given this was a ritzy place. Though, the same could be said about the Gliscor and Zigzagoon.

"Hey, pull up a seat. Order your favorites; this one's on the Guild's checkbook," he greets with a quick wave.

Without saying a word, the Gliscor takes a seat and stares intently at the Furret, seeming to analyze every inch of him. The Zigzagoon, Oto, takes a seat right beside his partner and sits down, nervously unfolding and folding his claws on the table. He looks from Skarro, to the Furret, then back to Skarro, and then finally to no point in particular.

An Empoleon waiter arrives shortly after and passes out fancy-looking menus to everyone present. A number of high-class dishes are listed on it, along with equally high-class prices.

"The usual," the Normal-type comments with disregard, gently pushing the menu back against the Empoleon's chest. The waiter merely rolls his eyes and turns his attention to the Gliscor and Zigzagoon, waiting expectantly for their order.

“I’ll have some of your finest wine.” Skarro says. Beside him, Oto tugs gently on his cape.

“Um... Sir maybe you should go with water instead?” He mildly suggests, knowing how his partner could get when he has a drink or two. At first the Gliscor says nothing, making the already nervous Zigzagoon even more anxious. Suddenly Skarro replies, breaking the tension.

“Yes, yes, of course! We’ll save the intoxicating beverages for some other time.” The Gliscor says and then adds to the waiter, “I’ll take water instead.”

“And I’ll take the same along with some roasted meatroot.” Oto says, his eyes glimmering at the prospect of a good meal.

The waiter finishes writing down everyone’s orders on his tablet and then, once he has them all down, shoots one last annoyed glance at the strange Furret, who appears unfazed, before walking off. "No sense of humor," the Furret remarks with a shrug, before lazily slumping back in his seat. His gaze doesn't settle on anyone in particular, as though he's simply staring off somewhere. "The name's Cuffin, but I'm sure you've already heard of me. No need for introductions on your part, I already know who ya are," Cuffin says with another sly smirk, tapping his paws together.

The Gliscor and Zigzagoon share a look and then the Gliscor fixates his eyes on Cuffin with a look that read: Oh, do you? It was an unsettling look and caused Oto to look away. If only looks could kill. They both knew though that the Hunters Guild couldn’t possibly know everything about them, could they?

"So... I work for this kid, Sundance. He made me promise to ask ya a few things before I go off on my own thing. He'll get his feathers in a bunch if I don't, so humor me. First things first: why do you wanna join the Hunters?" Cuffin asks with a roll of his eyes and a dramatic recitation, as if driving home the fact that he's being forced to ask this.

“We just want to help out. Besides we have nowhere to go otherwise.” Skarro says smoothly as if this part was already practiced. He makes his eyes sad, but still keeps his smile as he adds, “We’re just a pair of travelers who happened to stumble upon this fine town and thought we should finally settle somewhere. A place to call home, you know? Then we found the Hunters, a perfect group for misfits like us.”

At the very least, Cuffin looks interested as he listens. Perhaps it isn't the question itself he's so annoyed about. "All right. Respectable, yeah. Down the list..." The scruffy Furret reaches for a parchment already settled upon the table. Rather than hold it up to read, he crumples it in his paws rather rudely, then promptly tosses it over his shoulder. "What can you bring to the Hunters? What skills or talents can you utilize for us?" Once again, his recitation of the question is somewhat mocking.

“We may not have the best of skills, but I guess I can be good at tracking. My pal Oto over here has some quick hands and feet.” The Skarro says modestly, though his partner knew that his skills were highly advanced. Scary even. But he kept his mouth shut. This was all part of the plan and he didn’t want to go ruining it with boasting.

"Yeah, yeah, I gotcha. I guess we'll get to see some of that soon enough. Don't get me wrong; your answer don't mean you're gonna be taken or thrown out. This is basically... formalities..." Cuffin pauses, tilting his head upward thoughtfully. "...Yeah, formalities. I think that's the word he used. Whatever that means."

A grin comes over the Furret's fuzzy face as he readies himself for his next question, lowering the register of his voice. "This one's more interestin', to the little guy's credit. Are you against doin' things that the Royal Guard ain't gonna like if they catch ya doin' em?"

“Personally, no. We only just got here and I don’t know much about this place, so we wouldn’t mind breaking a few rules for our pals the Hunters, isn’t that so Oto?” Skarro replies. The sudden direction to Oto makes the Zigzagoon jump.

“Uh, yah! I mean no! No, we wouldn’t mind.” Oto quickly answers.

The Normal-type's pointed ears twitch at the reply. "It ain't me, just sayin'. I know well enough that if yer here, then you an' I are prolly already aware of the answer to that question. I just needed somethin' to tell the kid." With a sigh of relief, Cuffin tosses his hands in the air, then at the sides of the chair dramatically. "Whew. All right, enough of that stuff. The kid is on the right track, but sometimes it seems like the royals crammed a stick really far up there, if ya know what I mean. All these "formalities" and junk... anyway, the rest is straight from me."

He looks left, then right... but given the way his bright eyes are never quite focusing on the two in front of him, this seems to be one of those "formalities" of his own. He then begins to explain in an oddly sincere fashion, "You already know the basic stuff, so I'm gonna level with ya. Truth is, the Hunters are all about knowin' things about everybody else. Yer gonna learn secrets that nobody else will know. It'll change the way you look at this whole city, and yer prolly not gonna like what you see, but you'll always know exactly what's goin' on under the coat of sugar. I wouldn't blame ya if you'd rather go hang with a Guild that doesn't deal in the worst of what Andalusst can offer."

The Gliscor’s smile widens, moving his head up a bit. More light shines on his hidden face, catching his piercing yellow eyes. “You won’t have to worry about that. Me and my pal here have seen a lot in our lives. Much too much to relay. Secrets are our lifestyle.”

Cuffin's non-serious demeanor returns with a smirk at his response. "Is that so? Well... to be honest, I would've blamed ya, actually," he jokes with a lightly teasing tone. "Who doesn't wanna know everything about everybody? Life is all about keepin' yer options as open as possible 'til the right moment."

Just then, the waiter comes into earshot, flippers laden with everyone's orders. As he hesitates with the platter containing Cuffin's meal, one can't help but wonder if he's contemplating on spitting in it. The Furret doesn't appear to be looking at him anyway...  but he probably couldn’t even if he wanted to. The silver platters are placed on the table with mild clatter, but Cuffin faces the Gliscor and Zigzagoon again before paying them any mind.

"Before we eat..." he interrupts, reaching down and palming the nearest glass. He holds it up and forward across the table. Oto looks mildly disappointed at this interruption, but he looks to the Furret anyway. "Let's toast, to the new recruits," Cuffin proposes, though he leans in and adds with a whisper, "...That's you, just so ya know."

Skarro grins again, his teeth glinting in the dim light. “Yes. Thank you oh so much.” He then looks to Oto as if gesturing for him to pick up his own cup to toast for him.

“Right Sir!” Oto says after a bit of confused hesitation. He takes both his and his partner’s cup, clanging them against the Furret’s.
